Around the Campfire

Griddle granola parfaits are a lighter camp breakfast for mornings when nobody wants a heavy skillet. Toasting the granola briefly makes a simple yogurt bowl feel more intentional.

Why This Recipe Works

Low heat wakes up the granola without burning it. Everything else stays cool, so the breakfast is quick, fresh, and easy to assemble.

Quick Facts

  • Serves: 4
  • Heat zone: Low
  • Best for: Light breakfasts, hot mornings, quick starts
  • Teaches: Low-heat toasting

Shopping List

  • Granola
  • Yogurt
  • Berries
  • Honey

Home Prep

Portion granola and toppings before the trip. Wash berries if using them early.

Cooler Packing

Keep yogurt and berries cold. Keep granola dry and outside the cooler.

Equipment

  • Blackstone griddle
  • Spatula
  • Bowls or cups

Heat Zones

Use low heat so the natural sugars caramelize without scorching.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups granola
  • 2 cups plain or vanilla yogurt
  • 1 cup mixed berries (blueberries, strawberries, or raspberries)
  • 2 tablespoons honey

Instructions

  1. Preheat the griddle on low.
  2. Add 2 cups granola to the griddle and toast, stirring for 2–3 minutes, until fragrant and just golden.
  3. Remove granola from heat and allow to cool for 1–2 minutes.
  4. In 4 bowls or cups, layer 1/2 cup yogurt, 1/4 cup berries, and 1/2 cup toasted granola in each.
  5. Drizzle each parfait with about 1/2 tablespoon honey. Serve immediately.

Doneness

Granola should be lightly toasted and fragrant, not dark.

Common Mistakes

  • Toasting over too much heat.
  • Leaving granola unattended.
  • Adding warm granola too early if you want yogurt cold.

Serving Suggestions

Serve with coffee, extra fresh fruit, or breakfast sandwiches. Top with banana slices, cinnamon, or a sprinkle of nuts if desired.

Variations

  • Add bananas.
  • Use peaches.
  • Add cinnamon.

Dietary Adaptations

  • Gluten-free: Use gluten-free granola.
  • Dairy-free: Use dairy-free yogurt.
  • Vegan: Use plant-based yogurt and maple syrup.

Scaling

Set up a parfait bar and let everyone build their own.

Weather Notes

Great for hot mornings because most of the meal stays cool.

Leftovers

Keep components separate for best texture.

Kid Helper Tasks

Kids can layer parfaits and drizzle honey.

Dragonfly Tip

Toast the granola, not the yogurt. Keep hot and cold components separate until serving.

Dragonfly Challenge

Build one parfait with berries and one with bananas. Pick the better camp breakfast.
