Around the Campfire
Camp stir fry noodles are a flexible one-griddle dinner for nights when you want something fast and filling. They can carry chicken, steak, shrimp, or just vegetables depending on what is left in the cooler.
Why This Recipe Works
Cooked noodles reheat quickly on the Blackstone, while vegetables and protein can be staged separately. Sauce goes in near the end so the noodles stay glossy instead of sticky.

Cooler Packing
Keep noodles, vegetables, and protein cold in separate containers.
Equipment
- Blackstone griddle
- Spatula

Heat Zones
Use medium-high heat so everything fries instead of steaming. Keep a cooler zone for holding cooked items while the rest finishes.
Ingredients
- 12 ounces cooked noodles (such as lo mein, spaghetti, or rice noodles)
- 2 cups mixed vegetables, sliced (bell peppers, carrots, snap peas, broccoli)
- 1/2 pound cooked chicken, steak, shrimp, or tofu, sliced or chopped (optional)
- 1/3 cup stir-fry sauce
- 2 tablespoons oil (vegetable, canola, or avocado)
Instructions
- Preheat the griddle to medium-high.
- Add 1 tablespoon oil. Add optional protein (if using) and cook until just done or heated through. Push to one side.
- Add remaining 1 tablespoon oil to the griddle. Add mixed vegetables and stir-fry until tender-crisp, about 3-5 minutes.
- Add cooked noodles to the griddle and gently spread out. Stir occasionally, allowing noodles to heat through for 3-4 minutes.
- Fold the protein back in with the noodles and vegetables.
- Pour stir-fry sauce over everything and toss well to combine. Cook 1-2 minutes until heated and glossy.
- Serve hot.
Doneness
Noodles should be hot throughout. Any added protein should be cooked safely.
Common Mistakes
- Adding sauce too early.
- Using wet noodles.
- Crowding everything into one pile.
Serving Suggestions
Serve with fruit, salad, sliced green onions, or a sprinkle of sesame seeds. Add hot sauce or chili crisp at the table if desired.
Variations
- Add chicken.
- Add shrimp.
- Add spicy sauce at the table.
Dietary Adaptations
- Gluten-free: Use gluten-free noodles and sauce.
- Dairy-free: As written if sauce is verified.
- Vegetarian: Use vegetables and tofu-style protein if desired.
Scaling
Cook in batches so noodles heat instead of steam.
Weather Notes
Wind cools noodles quickly. Keep batches smaller.
Leftovers
Cool promptly and reheat gently the next day.
Kid Helper Tasks
Kids can add toppings and help build bowls away from the griddle.
Dragonfly Tip
Sauce last. Noodles need heat before they need flavor.
Dragonfly Challenge
Try one bowl with chicken and one with vegetables only. Pick the better camp noodle bowl.
