Choosing Cylinders

Most portable Blackstone griddles use 1 lb propane bottles, but adapters
allow connection to larger refillable tanks for longer trips.

Estimate Your Fuel

A 1 lb propane cylinder can often provide several meals on a portable
griddle, depending on heat level, wind, and cook time.

Reduce Fuel Usage

  • Preheat only when ready to cook.
  • Use a wind screen when appropriate.
  • Cook multiple foods during the same session.
  • Turn burners down once the griddle is fully heated.

Before Every Trip

  • Inspect hoses for cracks.
  • Check fittings for damage.
  • Pack one spare fuel source.

Leak Check

After connecting propane, apply a small amount of soapy water to the
connection. Bubbles indicate a leak. Turn the gas off and reconnect
before lighting.

Pack

  • Primary propane bottle
  • Spare bottle
  • Leak-test solution
  • Small adjustable wrench

Dragonfly Tip

Running out of propane during breakfast is one of the easiest camping
problems to prevent.
