Choosing Cylinders
Most portable Blackstone griddles use 1 lb propane bottles, but adapters
allow connection to larger refillable tanks for longer trips.
Estimate Your Fuel
A 1 lb propane cylinder can often provide several meals on a portable
griddle, depending on heat level, wind, and cook time.
Reduce Fuel Usage
- Preheat only when ready to cook.
- Use a wind screen when appropriate.
- Cook multiple foods during the same session.
- Turn burners down once the griddle is fully heated.
Before Every Trip
- Inspect hoses for cracks.
- Check fittings for damage.
- Pack one spare fuel source.
Leak Check
After connecting propane, apply a small amount of soapy water to the
connection. Bubbles indicate a leak. Turn the gas off and reconnect
before lighting.
Pack
- Primary propane bottle
- Spare bottle
- Leak-test solution

Dragonfly Tip
Running out of propane during breakfast is one of the easiest camping
problems to prevent.
